Know which rules
you’re bringing to the table.

Traditional card games travel. A special card in one household may do something different in another, and commercial editions can change. Every detailed guide identifies its reference or teaching version.

Mao is especially unusual: discovering the rules is often part of the game. Our guide explains that choice before revealing a starter version. For commercial games, the publisher’s instructions for your edition come first.

Questions before you deal

What card games start with M?

Mao, Mafia, Machiavelli, Mau Mau, Memory, Michigan Rummy, Mille Bornes, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly Deal and Munchkin are in this list. They range from games played with ordinary cards to games that require a dedicated commercial deck.

Are these the official rules?

This is an independent guide. Commercial games link to publisher materials, while traditional games identify a reference or a specific teaching version. House rules and editions can differ.

How can I choose a game for my player count?

Use the card game finder to filter this list by player count, deck type and play style. A match follows the documented version, including non-continuous player counts where an edition specifies them.
